AI-Native Linux (AIOS) is an open specification for an AI-native Linux distribution: a real distro that adds a cognitive core, a policy kernel, and an append-only evidence log on top of standard Linux. It’s intended for OS implementers, distro builders, security-conscious operators, tooling and platform engineers, and researchers who need a safe, auditable bridge between human intent and system actions. Key features: - Typed action surface and an "action envelope" that separates AI planning from execution. - Policy/identity/vault layer that enforces INV-002 ("AI proposes, never executes") at multiple mechanical sites. - Capability runtimes that execute only policy-approved operations; recovery paths that don’t depend on LLMs. - Append-only evidence log and verification grammar for auditability and reproducibility. - 11-layer architecture (L0–L10), Rev.2 spec, implemented in Rust across 19 crates with extensive tests.
