brain-mcp is a small MCP server that exposes a constrained set of personal Obsidian-vault operations to MCP clients (notably Claude.ai) so natural-language requests can write/read the local vault without a GitHub round-trip. It's designed for a single-user, self-hosted setup (e.g. a Mac mini with a vault at ~/brain/vault/) served via an HTTPS tunnel. Key features: - Write tools: capture (append to today's daily note), add_recipe, create_match (from template), walk_route/save_route (build and promote GPX routes), fetch_transcript (YouTube captions). - Read tools (allowlist-scoped): list, fetch, grep with automatic redaction of links outside the allowlist. - Read calls append metadata-only JSONL audit lines; writes are intentionally not audited. - Config via env (vault path, token, allowlist, audit log). Binds to localhost and expects an HTTPS tunnel for public access. Design emphasizes vault-as-source-of-truth and tool-level intents rather than raw file ops.
